City of Puyallup
Council Chamber | Digital Signage

SCOPE: The City was seeking a solution for a fully functional Council Chamber audio visual and digital signage system. The vision for the new Puyallup City Hall became a reality through the creative audio visual and architectural design efforts of Avidex and Mithun Architects.

The innovative design helped create a user friendly Council Chamber and a distributed digital signage system. The Council Chamber consists of two large wall mounted flat panel monitors located behind the dais for presentation display from computer, video and television sources for viewing by the meeting audience. Each council member and the city clerk view a local LCD monitor to see any computer or video presentation being shown to the council members and participants.

Presentations can be from city council or city clerk computers, and from the presentation podium. Each of the council positions, city clerk, and city manager are equipped with a microphone with mute capability for voice reinforcement through speakers that are hidden in the architectural ceiling treatment. To manage the council meetings the system includes a timer function to keep meetings on track, and voting function at each position. The system is controlled by two touch panels.

To address the need to make the council meetings available to the public, the system includes three cameras with control, video switching and the ability to record council meetings for public television broadcast and, streaming video/audio over the City of Puyallup internal computer network.

To further support communications the new City Hall includes flat panel wall mounted digital signage monitors that are located on each floor to display City event schedules, news, and information which can be updated and changed as needed.
